5 Tips On Why You Need A 2nd Photographer (with free download)

The number one question that bride and grooms have asked me over the years is if they need a 2nd photographer to help capture their wedding. Often unsure what the point is to having a 2nd set of eyes at their wedding day, I have educated them with the advantages to having an additional photographer for the day of their event. Being in the wedding industry for over 8 years now, has given me the knowledge about what exactly you need and don’t need on a wedding day. Here are my top 5 tips on why you DO need a 2nd photographer.

Annabelle & Jackson | Arizona Film Family Photographer

My goal for this year is to share more of my personal life. If you follow me on Instagram you will sometimes see my golden puppy Rizzo but also pictures of my kids from time to time. Because I’m wanting to share my life just as much as I am over there, here are some pictures that I took of my munchkins last spring. These pictures were luckily prior to when my intuitive six year old decided to be a hairdresser and chopped her and her brother’s hair. I feel like as a mother it was a right of passage.

I captured these images near our family property in Payson, Arizona. We separate a lot of our time up north. It is such a beautiful place to visit if you’ve never been. I love to escape to the beautiful trees and greens that are sometimes hard to find in our desert. During the winter and summer months we tend to be there for months at a time. Coming back down the mountain to reality isn’t easy as you will see in these photographs!

Megan + Matthew’s Exquisite Sedona Wedding | Arizona Film Wedding Photographer

Often when I meet bride’s I like to hear about all the juicy details. I’m no wedding planner by any means, but I do love to hear about the wedding themes, decor and where she bought her dress. I think that’s why I’ve stuck with weddings for so long. Cinderella was my favorite movie growing up and so imagining dressing up and going to a grand ball has always interested me. When it came to hear Megan’s wedding, I just knew this one was going to be something incredible. Megan has impeccable style and is gorgeous to boot. Megan is one of my oldest friends. We met in junior college in an acting class. She was one of those girls that people just clung to. She was extremely easy to talk to and one of the nicest people you will ever meet. I’m happy to say we’ve remained close friends ever since.

Capturing long life friends’ life events is one of the reasons why I love being a photographer. It is a true honor to be able to give memories to someone who I care about. Thank you Megan and Matthew for being my friend above all for letting me laugh, smile and cry with you on your incredible and beautiful day. I will cherish your wedding forever.

Jessica + Caleb’s Elegant Backyard Wedding | Arizona Film Wedding Photographer

I’ve known Jessica and Caleb for several years and when she told me she would be marrying her beau I was so ecstatically happy for them. They are one of those couples that when you look at them, you just immediately know that their love is eternal. The way that Caleb looks down at Jessica when she doesn’t notice is something beautiful to witness. I saw him secretly staring at her several times throughout their wedding and I almost teared up a few times. Love is so incredible to watch. Jessica’s family’s house in the desert is stunning and it was the perfect backdrop for their day. Here are some of my favorite photos from their wedding. Thank you Jessica and Caleb for letting me capture your beautiful wedding day!

Seville Golf & Country Club Wedding | Christina + Anthony | Arizona Film Wedding Photographer

My favorite thing about spring weddings in Arizona is the colors! I love bright and pops of color and this wedding that I captured for Christina and Anthony was no exception. I knew that I wanted their greens,  rose and champagne colors to sparkle so I chose for all portra film. I love how greens look on film and portra (in my opinion) is the best at showing this.

I met Christina a few years ago when she worked at another country club as a wedding planner. Still a wedding planner, yet at a different location; we have remained friends and industry acquaintances. I knew because of Christina’s background that her wedding would be spectacular. Being everything and more, I am so excited to have been there to capture such an important day for her and Anthony. Nothing was forgotten and the details were simply incredible. Here are some of my absolute favorite images. Congrats Christina and Anthony! I am so excited for you both.

Megan’s Bridal Shower | Film Wedding Photographer

Often Bride’s will invite me to their bridal showers. I love it because I really get the chance to mingle with her friends and the moms. It is such a great opportunity to get to know the people who I will be capturing! I’m actually very good friend’s with Megan. We’ve known each other since jr. college and so I was so excited to get to go to her shower during such a busy season. I surprised her and brought my camera. I can not wait for her gorgeous wedding in Sedona, Arizona next month!

Rose Garden Engagement | Lorissa + Nick | Phoenix, AZ Wedding Photographer

Most people don’t remember the first time they’ve had a professional picture taken of themselves. Some do and some can only remember their one and only time; senior portraits. Remember those? Mine were taken in a small studio in Mesa, Arizona at the ripe old age of 17. For most that I meet. That is the only time they have ever had pictures taken by a professional photographer. My job as your wedding photographer is to not make your engagement or wedding photo’s be as awkward as they were for my senior photos. My parents have printed a picture of myself with my fingers on a pretend back light window ‘looking out at my long lost love’. Oh the life before digital photography. Jokes aside. My life goal is to make you laugh, make you give GENUINE smiles and actually look happy. I don’t make you do silly poses or if I do put you in a pose, force it. If its not working for you, we change it up and do some cartwheels! Honestly. My life is to make you look like yourself.

Below you will find two amazing people who, even though quiet, were amazing in front of my camera. Because I shoot film, every photo counts. Even when they thought they didn’t get it right, they nailed it right on the head. They were spectacular and their love, light and personality shined through. I am so excited to introduce you to two love birds getting married this year. Two experts who deserve to be in front of the camera. <3

Patagonia Countryside Engagement | Ericca+ Joseph | Destination Wedding Photographer

The countryside of Patagonia is absolutely stunning. Nothing really comes to words with discovering this small area of Arizona. A hidden gem to most, and a paradise to few. For Ericca and Joseph, going back to a place where family is from to share the beginning of their engagement, was incredible. If you like wine, soft breeze and beautiful scenery, this is the place for you! This backdrop was the perfect setting for these two soon to be wed love birds. Thank you for allowing me to capture such a gorgeous and romantic engagement session for you two. I can not wait to capture your wedding day!

Kualoa Ranch Engagement | Paisley + Bryan | Hawaii Wedding Photographer

Earlier this month I traveled to Hawaii to capture several shoots on the island of Oahu. Having never traveled there previously I was really anxious and excited to be able to hike and discover amazing locations. The clients that booked me were so knowledgable and helpful that my week on the island will be something I will never forget. Because my trip was such a success I am excited to say I will be able to go back this June. Traveling the nation is an incredible job and being able to take pictures of beautiful people in gorgeous locations is a very humbling experience. The first shoot that I had was Paisley and Bryan’s save the date/engagement session. Paisely arrived in this gorgeous dress and custom made flower crown and Bryan in a relaxed fit of jeans and button up. Not only did they dress perfectly, but these two were stunning! Fortunately they were given permission to shoot at the very secluded Kualoa Ranch in Kaneohe, Oahu. Kualoa Ranch also happens to be a wedding venue so if you are looking for a unique (tucked away) wedding venue, I highly recommend it.

The Farm at South Mountain Wedding | Morgan + Colin

Morgan and Colin’s blush and lavender infused wedding at the gorgeous Farm at South Mountain was everything a farm style wedding could be. There were beautiful details, gorgeous blooming flowers, a slight breeze and one happy bride and groom. Their day could not have been more perfect. The gorgeous dress Morgan wore fit her perfectly and I absolutely adored their first look. One of my favorite things about wedding photography is being able to truly capture the beauty of a couple on their wedding day. The love these two have for one another and how they fell into each other’s arms made my job that much easier. Morgan and Colin’s will forever be one of my favorites. Congratulations you two! I wish you a lifetime of happiness!
